We fixed all our visas in Tehran. We saw quite a lot of Iran without our bikes and it was time to cycle back again! To save some time, we decided to take a bus from Tehran to Mashhad (a city close to the Turkmen border). But we did not want to leave Iran without a proper cycling adventure, so we stopped in Shahrud to cycle to Gorgan over the Alborz Mountains.
We camped under a tree at 2600 meters, fully protected from the storm. A night of rain, after weeks spent on a desert was a blessing from the sky!
On the way down to Gorgan, we had to go through the clouds. Even though we were wearing our rain gear, we were totally soaked.
The road down was quite curly and very steep. One of the drivers was so kind, that he drove behind us to slow down the passing cars. On the bottom we were invited to drink some tea together with his family.
